Yes, buuuuut trying to compare it to the old ones is simply not possible! Nothing—not even the sequels—compare to the first Matrix. They got progressively worse! The third one was nauseating, if you ask me.
I approached this movie as objectively as I could and tried not to compare it to the first. Wasn’t easy. The action scenes weren’t anyyyywhere close. And maybe because I’m not a mother and don’t think Trinity’s best trait is loyalty, I didn’t see her walking out as ludicrous. She’s a woman who loves a man more than anything, and that alone has led plenty of women to leave their husbands and kids behind.
Considering how long it’s been and how the hell do you follow up on the first Matrix—I didn’t think the storyline was so bad. Until the end—WHAT the heck happened in the end?!! Also, sorry but the Morpheus replacement was NOT acceptable. Didn’t have the voice. Didn’t have the presence. And def didn’t have good fashion sense. The comedy was weird—there was barely any comedy in the first three. Also, the cluster attacks (or whatever they’re called) was much.
And then what’s really interesting is that the film attempts to address aging, but doesn’t go deep enough to address anything.
Overall, I’d give it a 5. Not good. Not bad. But I’d watch it again, which says a lot. I’m also curious if the rumors are true and the storyline follows a real life storyline… Nerds wanna know! If not, I think there’s some brilliance in the storyline, but it wasn’t nurtured.
Would’ve definitely liked it to be better, but I’m thankful it wasn’t worse 😜
Also, 9 out of 10 sequels are terrible—have always been. I do think movies have gotten worse but this shouldn’t be much of a surprise.
