The Supplement that Cured My PMDD

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you know what PMS is or have heard about it.

But have you heard about PMDD? It’s PMS’s cousin who’s louder, rowdier, and infinitely more obnoxious. At her best, she’s still far worse PMS. At her worst, she’s so dangerous that she can push you to the brink of suicide — not joking.

The Mayo Clinic defines PMDD as a severe, sometimes disabling extension of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Although regular PMS and PMDD both have physical and emotional symptoms, PMDD causes extreme mood shifts that can disrupt your work and damage your relationships.

Since I hit my mid-30’s, I’ve experienced PMDD. Prior to that, PMS wasn’t ever much of an issue. I’d get the occasion swollen breasts, irritability, or mild cramps but nothing compared to the majority of my friends. I felt lucky.

But after having a full-blown case of Celiac Disease surface at 34, my monthly “moon” changed in big ways.

The good news, my moon lasted 2–3 days. The bad news, a demon took over my body 10–14 days before my moon started and I didn’t even realize it until my soul re-entered my body.

The demon was relatively easy to manage when I was single. I could stay home, ignore the world, and live on minimal grocery store trips. All of which I wanted because destroying the world was the only thing I felt like doing.

But then I met my boyfriend and bypassing reality got really hard. On the best of days, he was given the perfect ability to infuriate me. Him + PMDD turned me into a maniac.

Mind you, I had no clue that I was dealing with PMDD, nor had I ever heard about it. I just thought I hadn’t realized how intense my PMS was beforehand.

Thankfully, I came across a BBC article about a woman who dealt with a severe case of PMDD. Prior to her cycles, she would become totally unhinged and nearly committed suicide more than once — with her kids in the house. She had lived with it for the majority of her life, but noticed it chilled out when she was pregnant. Eventually, she had a hysterectomy to get rid of it.

I dove into researching PMDD and praised the Universe for helping me to discover what was going on. It was empowering to find out that it wasn’t my fault but kids or a hysterectomy weren’t options for me. I had to find another way.

Thus began the year and a half journey to finding a solution. I tried it all — no sugar, no soy, no caffeine, no meat, more sleep, doing yoga every day, increasing my meditation/prayer times, additional exercise, and nothing really made a dent.

Then on a whim one day scrolling through herbal supplements on Amazon for energy, I came across a few supplements for PMS and decided to give a few brands a try.

After a few trial and errors, I found them — the holy grail: Vali RENEW. They’re made of all-natural, Chinese herbs, and are super affordable. Plus, they worked quick — evened out my hormones in a few days, and have become my #1 ally in evening out my moods on a daily basis.

All this to say — if you turn into a loony lady once a month, give them a try. There’s no affiliate link — you’ll even find my review from many moons ago. I can’t live without them.

Enjoy.
