My partner and I have been together nearly six years and he’s 9 years younger than me. We’re very committed and on the road to marriage but in no hurry. The age difference has definitely created issues at times but we both entered the relationship with eyes wide open, discuss the hot topics and are dedicated to communicating honestly.

Obviously, things like children can make or break a relationship, but that could be between two people of the same age as well.

I think when it comes down to it, what’s most important is that two people have the same definition of commitment. If that’s the case, anything can be worked through.

Managing an age gap isn’t always easy but I believe every relationship has issues, so it’s a matter of picking what’s doable for you. The gap can also be fabulous! At 40, I’ve been learning to longboard since he’s a fan and we’re getting ready to take our remote working selves on the road… Not a lot of people my age can do that or have partners who are also down for it.

If commitment and communication are aligned, it all equals out in the end :))
