I Wear A Mask FOR ME

I wear a mask FOR ME. At first, I made that decision out of fear because of what I read, to protect others, and because I am considered to be among the most vulnerable. Fear…

But then I found myself in a constant state of judgment towards those who didn’t. And no matter how hard I tried, it was difficult for me to see that decision as anything less than arrogant or selfish.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How is that my place to judge? And how can I be loving from that space?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Then I realized that wearing/not wearing a mask was just another way to divide us. Republican/Democrat. Christian/Muslim/Jew. Male/Female/Gender fluid. Right/Wrong. Straight/LGBTQ.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And I vowed to change.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Today, I REFUSE to be part of it. To the best of my ability, I will NOT add to the division taking place on this planet. I will NOT believe that ANY subject or PERSON is as black/white as it/they appear to be. I will NOT allow judgment to be my first impulse in these times.

I will walk in love. I will do my best. And I will wear a mask FOR ME. Not out of fear but because I don’t know Covid. I don’t believe anyone knows Covid. And if wearing a mask MIGHT be helpful — NOT a problem.

I share this because I think it’s really important that we begin to shift the “us vs. them” mentality, that we re-evaluate what that sickness is doing to our mental, emotional and physical states in a time that is already difficult. And that we remember — WE ARE ALL ONE.

I can disagree — in love. I can dislike — in love. I can find a middle space to stay true to who I am while giving others the space to do the same.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Love. Even in the midst of all the chaos — it’s the only answer.
